"I think camp gave her more confidence and taught her that she can meet new kids and have a good time. I was impressed at what she learned to do with the horses – herding cattle and going on a trail ride."

Horsemanship Instruction

CHA level 1 Western Ages 7-18: No previous experience necessary
If you have never taken a horsemanship class at Miracle Ranch, this one is for you. You will learn how to catch, halter, groom, saddle, mount, and, best of all, ride horses in a Western saddle.

CHA Trail Riding Ages 7-18:
No previous experience necessary
Learn the basics of horsemanship and horse care, trail-riding safety and instruction, horse packing and camping basics, horse first aid and hoof care and good land stewardship.

CHA level 2 Western: Completion of CHA level 1 Western required
Did you pass the written and riding test in CHA level 1 Western? Congratulations! You’re ready to deepen your knowledge of the horse. Join us as we learn about horse training, horse markings and colors, horse anatomy, staying in balance with the horse, and overcoming obstacles on horseback.

CHA level 2 English:
Completion of CHA level 1 Western required
Did you pass the written and riding test in CHA level 1 Western? Congratulations! Taking English Horsemanship is one of the best ways to build on what you’ve learned in Western Horsemanship. You will use the same lightweight seat as professional jockeys and jumpers. This saddle frees the horse to be more athletic. As an English rider, you will work on balance and gaits at the walk, trot and canter.

CHA level 3 Western: Completion of CHA level 2 Western required
You have earned this Level 3 class. Learn schooling figures, transitions at the walk, trot/jog, and canter/lope. Also, refine your rein, leg and seat aids, and improve your skills and knowledge in horse care, feeds, bitting, tack care and horse behavior.

CHA level 3 English: Completion of CHA level 2 English required
Build on what you’ve learned in CHA level 2 English Horsemanship. You will use the same lightweight seat as professional jockeys and jumpers. This saddle frees the horse to be more athletic. As an English rider you’ll work on balance and gaits at the walk, trot and canter as well as schooling figures and dressage patterns.

CHA level 4 English & Western:
Completion of CHA level 3 English or Western required
Whether you ride English, Western or both, you will really be challenged by Level 4 classes. Refine schooling figures and transitions at the walk, trot/jog, and canter/lope. Also, learn to train your horse in rein, leg and seat aids, as well as improve your abilities in horse management.

CHA Level 3&4 Western Gaming: Completion of CHA level 2 Western required
Gymkhana (games on horseback): Learn the fundamentals of gaming, training techniques and balance & control. Improve your time and overall riding skill.

Vaulting Club Ages 7-18: Vaulting is an internationally recognized sport of gymnastics on horseback. Beginners and experienced riders learn the six compulsory vaulting exercises and several Kür movements, which allow the rider to improve his/her seat and balance, and have a great time! You will start out on a stationary barrel, then practice on the back of a moving draft horse.

H.O.R.S.E. Club: Completion of CHA level 2 required
This “horsemanship intensive” class is for a limited number of students who have completed at least two levels of horsemanship. The club will include a ½ hour book/Bible study and club-elected activities (ex: horse care, training, health, trailering, tack repair, driving, cow work, advanced riding, etc.)! Permission of Horsemanship Director is required prior to enrollment.
