Important Information

Summer staff members are an integral part of each camper’s experience. Campers and guests will remember the time they spent at CRISTA Camps for years! Our gospel-centered program stresses servant leadership, relationships and teamwork—so each camper and guest can experience an unforgettable time and walk away changed. Summer Staff carry on CRISTA’s Mission of Loving God by Serving People.

Summer staff selection begins in January, and continues through the spring. Summer staff will be involved in serving guest groups and putting on our traditional camp programs. Applicants must be eighteen years of age or older and graduated from high school. Some positions require the applicant to have completed at least one year of college or equivalent experience. A servant's heart and flexibility are key to a successful summer of ministry.


2012 Available Positions (Leadership, Counseling, Activities, Support, Program)

Island Lake positions are in blue. Miracle Ranch positions are in red.


Leadership Staff

Men’s/Women’s Dean (1-M, 1-F - 1-M, 1-F): Function as the first authority level for summer staff. Support, encourage, counsel and contribute to staff unity.

High School Coordinator (1 Position1 Position): Supervises the High School Leadership Program. Responsible for overseeing Bible Studies and daily activities and schedule of High School Leaders and students. Must have leadership and organizational skills and a desire to invest your summer in teens.

REC Supervisor (1 Position1 Position): Responsible for oversight and management of REC Staff and recreation activities. Must have leadership and organizational skills. Lifeguard certification preferred.

Program Coordinator (1 Position1 Position): Assist Program Director in organizing, supervising, and running games, skits, meals, sessions, and other program-related activities. Must have organizational and leadership skills.

Day Camp Director (1 Position): Develop, supervise, coordinate and lead the Noah’s Landing program, serving 40-70 campers per week.

Head Wrangler (1 Position): Assist the Horsemanship Coordinator in leading the wrangling staff. This position includes scheduling and leading all wrangler duties including trailrides, classes, chores, and the rodeo. Strong leadership and horsemanship experience are a must.

Counseling Staff

Counselors (16 Positions 16 Positions): Counselors are the heart and soul of our traditional camps. They spend their week utilizing every opportunity to connect with and serve their campers. They spend time with their cabin at every meal and in most activities and games as well as lead their cabin in cabin discussions and one-on-one times. Responsible for 8-12 campers, 24 hours a day. We have many different counseling opportunities available, ranging from 1-8 weeks as a counselor.

High School Leaders (2 Positions2 Positions): Assists the High School coordinator in overseeing the High School Leadership Program students. Including, scheduling daily tasks, mentoring the High School students and leading Bible studies. Must have leadership skills and a desire to invest your summer in teens.

WIT Leader (1 Position): Lead a group of Wranglers-In-Training and help to mentor them in faith, life, leadership, and horsemanship. Assist in scheduling and other wrangling duties and make sure WITs integrate into the wrangling program.

Program Staff

Music Leader (1 Position1 Position): Plan and lead songs in large group settings during our traditional camps (includes forming a band, learning PowerPoint, setup of A/V equipment, etc.).  Lead regular worship times for summer staff and High School Leadership Program students.

Program Assistant
(1 Position1 Position): Assist the Program Coordinator in planning, set-up, organizing, and leading games, skits, and Firesides. Ability to play a character and encourage involvement are important strengths for these positions.

Day Camp Assistant (1 Position): Assist the Day Camp Director in leading all aspects of Noah’s Landing Day Camp. Plan, set-up, and implement activities, firesides, and more.

Activities Staff

REC Staff (10 Positions10 Positions): An all around position which is responsible for facilitating activities including, but not limited to Ropes Course, Moto-X, Skate Park, Waterfront, Paintball, Store, Office; assisting program in areas such as games and skits; and filling in as a counselor or other position as needed.

Crafts Supervisor/ Health Assistant (1 Position1 Position): Supervise crafts for traditional camps and guest groups.  Assist the Nurse in providing health care for the campers and staff. Some formal health care training is required.

Waterfront Supervisor (1 Position1 Position): Must possess current ARC Lifeguard Certificate, Waterfront Certification, and first aid and CPR training. Supervise and schedule lifeguards. Train staff and campers in waterfront procedures and boating safety and maintain a safe and clean waterfront.

Lifeguard (3 Positions3 Positions): Assist the waterfront supervisor in maintaining a safe and fun environment at the waterfront.  Train staff and campers in waterfront procedures and boating safety.  Must be willing to get lifeguard certified or possess current ARC Lifeguard Certificate, Waterfront Certification, and first aid and CPR training.(We offer a lifeguard training course before summer starts)

Paintball Supervisor (1 Position1 Position): Instruct daily classes and supervise staff and games. Responsible for maintenance of equipment and fields. Responsible for program’s safety.

Ropes Course Supervisor (1 Position1 Position): Assist in teaching, facilitating, and monitoring safety of the high ropes courses. Must be willing to obtain ACCT Level 1 ropes course certifitcation (we can help accepted applicants obtain this).

Wrangler (4 Positions): Teach group riding lessons in Western horsemanship. Requires horsemanship experience.

Vaulting Instructor (1 Position): Supervise vaulting program and train assistants. Oversee care of vaulting horses. Requires horsemanship/vaulting experience.

Trailbike Instructor (3 Positons): Requires both skills for riding and experience for maintaining bikes, teaching, and organizing. Teach safety and basic trail bike techniques.

Support Staff

Camp Store Manager
(1 Position1 Position): Must have skills in computers, management, sales, basic accounting, inventory control and organization.

Nurse
( 1 Position1 Position): Provide health care for the campers and staff. RN certification required.

Health Assistant/ Crafts Supervisor
(1 Position1 Position): Assist the Nurse in providing health care for the campers and staff. Some formal health care training is required.Supervise crafts for traditional camps and guest groups.  

Photographer/ AV Assistant
(1 Position1 Position): Includes taking pictures of all camp activities, editing and posting pictures, creating slideshows, etc.  Meet all A/V support needs and maintain all A/V equipment.

Kitchen Assistant
(2 Positions 2 Positions): Assist cooks in daily meal preparation and leadership of crews.  Basic food handling and preparation experience preferred.

Maintenance Assistant
(1 Position1 Position): Assist the Maintenance Supervisor in caring for the facilities.

What is camp all about?

All activities and programs at Island Lake and Miracle Ranch are driven by an identical mission: to love God by serving youth and those who serve and disciple them, through exceptional camp experiences and excellent facilities, in order to introduce them to Jesus Christ and strengthen their relationships with Him.

Through example and teaching, we introduce youth and adults to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their relationships with Him.

When does 2012 camp start/end?

Opportunities are available for individuals who would like to come early and/or stay late. Individuals must speak with the program director (see contact info below).


What if I can’t commit to a whole summer?
We also have positions available from 2 weeks to 8 weeks long. Please apply with your dates available and we can talk about positions that may fit.   

Do I get any days off?
In general staff are off for a 24 hour period on the weekend, typically from Saturday afternoon until Sunday at 1pm. If additional days or weeks are needed off, this can be arranged on a case by case basis with the Program Director.

What is the salary?
This summer there are opportunities for volunteer and/or paid positions. Salaries range from $200 - $225 per week. All staff receive room and board.

Where will I be staying while at camp?
On the grounds; location is dependent upon the position.

When/What do I need to apply?
Summer staff selection begins in January, but applications are accepted until all positions are filled. We strongly encourage applicants to submit their applications as soon as possible. Application process: complete online application - send in reference email contact information (you will receive an email confirming receipt of your application and requesting this information). Interviews will scheduled after all reference responses have been received.

When will I find out if I'm on summer staff?
Applicants are considered for positions after we have received a completed application and the three reference forms.  Once the application process has been completed, applicants should hear back from us within two weeks.
